Mid-Season Team Report Card: One Eyebrow (Ihor)

Calgary (CP) One Eyebrow's disappointing first half leads to some disappointing grades but a bright prospect of a strong second half.

Significant Roster Changes:
+ Mathieu Schneider
+ Olli Jokinen
+ Rod Brind'Amour
+ Petr Budaj
- Lubomir Vishnovsky
- Milan Hejduk
- Peter Forsberg

Analysis:
The always active Ihor has improved his roster from when it first opened. Rumour mill has it that there are at least 2 significant deals in place to help put the Eyebrows in high gear for the second half.

Grades:
+ Forwards (B): Ranks 5th in G, 3rd in A. On opening day, the Eyebrows had one of the most deep sets of forwards in the league. Major disappointments in Marleau (18 pts), Recchi (20 pts) and Avery (12 pts) have been equalled by nice surprises in Horcoff (35 pts) and Bouchard (32 pts) to balance things out.
+ Defence (B-): With Kaberle, McCabe and Schneider the Eyebrows D haven't been producing as expected on the PP. On the flip side, this group is capable of scoring in bunches since all of them play more than 20+Mins of TOI and get significant time on the PP.
+ Goalies (C+): Ranks 8th in W, 3rd in L. It took longer than expected for Toskala to win the starting job in T.O but shortly after this he got hurt. Turco has been ok but not a top 5 goalie (or top 10 for that matter) as expected.
+ Special Teams (B+): Ranks 4th in PPG, 3rd in PPA. Great PPP production from his forwards but as mentioned, the D have been a disappointment so far in this area. Looking for this area to once again improve in the second half of the season.
+ Goon Factor (C-): As Ken would say "Too many people with visors", the Eyebrows aren't taking as many PIMs as expected but they have potential. Avery, McCabe and Doan can rack them up with the best of them.
+ Overall (B-): Ihor finished 2007 on a good note that should carry into the new year. A deal for a keeper forward could help catapult him into contention by March... which I fully expect to happen.
